From The Weavers to Bob Dylan to Ani DiFranco, the folk world has always had artists come along to ruffle its feathers & challenge its comfort zone. Left On Red is much too eclectic to label "just folk," but the commitment of these two talented young women to positive social and environmental changes puts them right at home with the essense of folk music. Don't miss them @ the Uptown on Sunday, February 12, 2012 at 6 pm.

Find out more about Left On Red on our Schedule_Page. And don't forget that you can pre-order tickets via PayPal on our Ticket_Page to get your 10% discount.

We were extremely grateful to receive a donation this month from a generous fan, who wishes to remain anonymous, in memory of the great Jack Hardy. This gift will "sponsor" our June show with Rod MacDonald, and as the Uptown Coffeehouse is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, it will be tax-deductable. Many thanks to each & everyone who comes out to support live folk music in the Bronx.

If anyone needed a reason as to why we strive to keep the Uptown Coffeehouse going, Diana Jones' performance last Sunday provided it. Diana's music is rooted in the deep traditions of folk music giving it a timeless & endearing quality. Yet, her songs, while subtle and heart-warming, are topical and relevant in the modern world. Music like hers demands to be heard. Thank you Diana for a wonderful show.

It was a difficult decision that the Uptown Coffeehouse had to make this summer. The Riverdale area of the Bronx had been our home for all of our 24 years, but rising costs made it necessary that we find a new location. As volunteers our primary goal has always been to keep folk music alive in the Bronx and give our great artists a place to perform and earn their livelihood. It made little sense towards that end that the bulk of our funds should pay for operating expenses instead of going to the musicians. City Island offered us an affordable option at an attractive location.

We've strived to keep our basic ticket prices the same $15 they've been for well over a decade, while not compromising on the quality of the performers. We are eliminating our senior discount at the door, but the same 10% discount will still be available for everyone who wants it on advance sales through PayPal.

We understand that City Island is a trek from Riverdale, and that we'll now have to look for street parking. Most of the volunteers themselves live in or around Riverdale, but something had to give. City Island is a charming neighborhood with many restaurants and a vibrant population. We hope the new 6PM starting time will give our audience time to grab a late afternoon dinner, if they so desire. We're optimistic the move will be well worth it.

UPDATE: The Uptown Coffeehouse has found a new home! We'll be resuming our monthly concert series in January with shows on Sundays at 6 PM at the City Island Community Center. More details soon...

After 24 years at the Ethical Cultural Society in Riverdale, The Uptown Coffeehouse is seeking a new home. High costs and declining attendance are forcing us to look for a new location. We're hopeful to resume our shows in January, and we'll be sure to update you as soon as we have news.

As most of you are aware, we are a 501(c)(3) charitable organization run by volunteers whose goal is to promote folk music by providing a venue for artists. Throughout the years, we've hosted performances from some of the finest musicians and singer-songwriters in America and abroad. We've strived to keep ticket prices low, but expenses keep rising. We do our part to keep folk music alive in the Bronx and give these great artists a place to perform and earn their livelihood. But we cannot do it without your help. Your attendance is what makes it all possible. Wherever we wind up, we hope to see you there.
