The Uptown Coffeehouse is an organization run entirely by volunteers dedicated to bringing live, traditional & contemporary folk music to the Bronx, New York. We were established in 1987 and were incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization in 2003.
Our goal is to support folk music by providing a quality venue in the Bronx for some of the very best artists in the genre. We aim to maintain a pleasant listening experience for our audience and provide light refreshments for sale. We schedule our shows monthly throughout the season, which runs from October through June.
The volunteers are never paid, and all proceeds from ticket sales & refreshments are used to pay the performers and meet expenses. These include expenses for mailings, publicity, the web site, supplies, sound equipment and rent. We do accept donations, which are tax deductable to the extent allowed by the law. We thank our audience for its loyal support.
Finally, we could not exist without the generosity & sponsorship of the Riverdale-Yonkers Society for Ethical Culture, which provides office services and makes its space affordable to us.
